Overall, I was most surprised by the issues I found with air quality problems in Marin. I already feel like I had a pretty solid understanding of the environmental justice issues in place in Marin, but it never gets old seeing the statistics in your face like that. I was very pleased to find out with 100% certainty that there are no manufacturing facilities or superfund sites in Marin!!!

On the other hand, it is frightening to know that 11/23 bodies of water are classified as being at medium risk and the high levels of pesticides! I wonder if anything is being done to reduce this percentage.
Wow, thats great that you guys don't have any superfund sites or manufacturing facilities. The water in Marin seems to be a concerning issue. Hopefully something is being done about this.

ReplyDeleteYou're fortunate that there are no SuperFund sites close to where you live. I've actually been the to Treasure Island Naval Station you discussed as I used to work for the YMCA and there is a YMCA right there on Treasure Island next to the site. I wonder if the YMCA management considered this fact when selecting this site for a YMCA property. It now feels irresponsible to have a family community center net door to a SuperFund...

Great job with this assignment! You really went all out with discussing the risks or air pollution and SUperFunds in your area. You discovered some pretty alarming things about your community's air pollution rates.. how did this effect you? I know you said you were disturbed, but did it make you consider acting on what you found out?
