EcoEmploy
I selected the Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. The impact that this branch has on environmental health is pretty overwhelming - the majority of their work has to do strictly with the environmental health of human and animal populations! To give a specific example, the Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service offers a specialty certification to veterinarians so that they can confidently sign-off on the health status of livestock. This certification serves our community in an environmental health fashion because these veterinarians make sure that the cows producing our milk, the chickens producing our eggs, etc. are all up to par with their health and well-being. It is because of veterinarians like these, who act to enforce standards of care for livestock, that we can be sure our livestock are producing safe products.

Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty neat to hear that this department offers specific certifications for vets who wanat to sign-off on the health status of livestock. It blows my mind how many discplines are connected, and how a seemingly random discpline like vetrenarians, can impact our food sources. - Christina KH
How awesome that this department offers this certification. I think it's extremely important for all veterinarians to hold this certificate as it is beneficial for our health. This not only protects us, but it is also letting the department know which animals aren't doing well health wise.

ReplyDeleteWow - the niche programs you mention are TOTALLY awesome! I want to know more about the body art program! What is it and how do I sign up? I feel like a program like this one is something unique to San Francisco. Do you think other cities have program like this one?

Whoop - I read Christina's Blog before I read yours! You basically answered the questions I posed to her! I think this program is so awesome. I wonder how it came to be? I feel like there is probably a fairly interesting origin story for this program.
