International Labour Organization

For this assignment I selected the International Labour Organization's program, 2030 Agenda. This program embraces three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental. It also has 17 sustainable development goals: no poverty, zero hunger, good health, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace and justice, and partnership for the goals.

When I read over the 17 goals - it sounds like a perfect plan! These are missions I can get behind and that I know would lead to increased health and safety for myself and my community. When I clicked on each of these goals to learn a little more about each one, I was not disappointed. Each one of these goals takes a very progressive stand to see these issues remedied.

  1. Hi Alex,
Thanks for sharing about the International Labour Organization. I appreciate that it takes a holistic approach by focusing on the economic, social, and enviroenmtal dimensions of sustainability. Hmm, how do you feel about their goals of no poverty, zero hungery, good health etc.? Do you think these are achievable or ideal?

  2. It is great that the International Labour Organization's program is implementing goals to help increase health and safety for the community. Were there any objectives listed for the goals? It would be interested to see what steps they are taking and how long it will take them to accomplish these goals. Thanks for your blog!

I appreciate that you pointed out that this program encourages worker involvement. I think this is so crucial because this is the target population with this program - its so important to hear their voice so the program can be a success.

The program you discussed is such a novel idea! How great is it to provide rest and shade to this group. Its not something I would have necessarily thought of on my own, but I'm glad health actors have taken notice. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
